The
Post-Graduate Programme in Agri-Business Management
(PGP-ABM) prepares students for careers in management
related to agriculture, food, agri-business, rural and
allied sectors of the economy. PGP ABM programme aims
at enabling meritorious agricultural graduates to acquire
the critical competencies to function as effective agri-business
managers. It also prepares students for managerial and
entrepreneurial careers in enterprises serving or dependent
on agriculture and allied activities.

Course contents of Agribusiness Management
Agri-business
explores production, marketing and trading of products
related to agriculture. It also covers improved growing
techniques, agricultural machinery, fertilizer, pesticides
pre- and post- harvest handling, storage, transportation,
packaging and labelling. Critical management issues
as financing and technical assistance, preparation of
products for exports, overseas marketing issues and
government policy.
The
PG programmes touch areas such as production and marketing
seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, farm machinery and equipment,
livestock feed, irrigation, Export and import, co-operatives,
rural banking, agricultural projects, insurance, logistics,
land management, water management and irrigation, and
sustainable energy. The curricula is different in different
institutions.

Role of Agribusiness Managers
Agribusiness
Managers have a big role to play in Indian economy as
agriculture is a main part of Indian economy. Agribusiness
Management is application of Management principles for
Agriculture. Indian agriculture is rapidly changing
due to globalisation, competitive environment and changing
role of government. It was found that fresh agricultural
graduates were facing problems as managers in agri-business
firms. This became need for properly designed special
management programmes.
The work of agri-business managers is to contribute
substantially to the development of diverse activities
in this sector. To achieve this Agri-Business Management
Education was established - the National Institute of
Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Rajendranagar,
